Elder Scrolls Online Announced

I feel like someone just kicked my dog. Granted, I don't have a dog. But if I did, this is exactly what I'd be feeling like. Zenimax Online Studios, via an exclusive cover story given to Game Informer, have announced the existence of a game in the works that, in my opinion, promises to bring about Ragnarok, Armageddon, and the Zombie Apocalypse all eggroll-wrapped into one.

Yes, you guessed it. It's The Elder Scrolls Online.

I know. Take a moment. Catch your breath. Grab a glass of cold water. I think it took me a good fifteen minutes to stop screaming when I first heard the news.

Fucking bastards.

Bethesda Game Studios, the blokes normally behind the wheel on all Elder Scrolls projects, have assured fans that they're not involved. That, in fact, they are hard at work on Skyrim patches, DLC, updates, etc. And I'm sure that's perfectly true. But I'm also sure that the existence of an impending juggernaut like an Elder Scrolls MMO will have an undeniable impact on the sustainability of the single-player franchise we've all come to love, adore, and borderline obsess over.

This may be it, ladies and gents. Just like the RTS Warcraft series came to a screeching halt following the release of its MMO counterpart (you've heard of WoW, right?), so too might we be witnessing the last installment of the single-player Elder Scrolls series in the vibrant visage of Skyrim.

I feel like curling up in a corner with my Alduin statue.
