I've officially put way too much time into Skyrim, Bethesda's latest in the Elder Scrolls series. Right now, I'm topping out at over 300 hours spent in the woolly wilds of the far, far north. And believe it or not, I'm still going strong, and there's still plenty of content to keep me busy. I know, it's kind of insane. I don't know of any other company that can churn out single-player adventures of such depth and longevity.
I was a little nervous when I first started reading about Skyrim. There was a small part of me that was afraid it might just be a minor upgrade on Oblivion, the previous entry. I was a little worried that it might not live up to my expectations. After all, I'd spent nearly three years playing Morrowind off and on, and pretty much the same for Oblivion. So I suppose it was inevitable that I'd have some misgivings about whether or not Bethesda could pull off that same kind of magic again.
Fortunately, I had nothing to worry about. The game is awesome. And yes, I'm one of those woe-begotten PS3 players who happened to get hit by a huge number of bugs, but I'm also happy to report that the patches released so far have addressed the broad majority of them. And after all, it's kind of hard to get too pissed at a company that's provided me with over a decade of top-notch entertainment. So I'm giving them a pass on this one. They're still aces in my book.
